Day trips from Mergellina and the recommended garages if you arrive by car.
01
Mergellina is a great base for the whole bay. Always check timetables the day before: they change with the season and, for ferries, with the weather.
Line 2 to Napoli Centrale, then the Circumvesuviana (Naples–Sorrento line). Get off at «Pompei Scavi — Villa dei Misteri» or «Ercolano Scavi»: the entrances are steps from the station. Leave early: at midday in summer there is no shade in Pompeii.
The gulf islands are served from Molo Beverello, not the small harbour below. Take Line 6 from Mergellina to Municipio — four stops along the sea — and the pier is a few minutes' walk from there. In high season buy your ticket online the day before. Sailings are cancelled in rough seas: always check before you leave.
Two options. The classic: Circumvesuviana to Sorrento, then SITA bus to Positano and Amalfi — scenic but slow and crowded. The easy summer option: direct ferry to Positano and Amalfi, pricier but far nicer. I'd avoid driving: the road is narrow and parking is a nightmare.
Seafront and Villa Comunale on foot. Posillipo is a fifteen-minute climb, with the best view in the city. Historic centre and Toledo are three metro stops away: get off at Toledo, said to be one of Europe's most beautiful stations.

In every garage around here the issue isn't the price, it's that it gets disputed on the way out. Call ahead, ask for the 24-hour rate and have it sent to you in writing by WhatsApp or SMS. Thirty seconds that spare you the only nasty surprise on offer.
One of the closest, on the same street as the small supermarket. Well reviewed for courtesy and safety, and very handy if you're taking hydrofoils from the harbour.
Open 24/7, English-speaking staff, bookable online. The safest bet if you arrive late at night or leave very early.
Open around the clock: the convenient choice if you arrive late at night or leave at dawn. The rule above applies here too: get the rate confirmed in writing.
A long-established, family-run garage. Call ahead to check space and the daily rate, and have it sent to you in writing.
